We must remember that there is no such thing as 'writing for a living' but if we do our job, we will make a living writing.Many of us began our writing careers as teenagers where we were handed a typewriter and told to write a short story or essay about a subject that we liked. As you may have already guessed, these things usually did not turn out well.We often think that we have discovered writing for a living only when we became a professional writer. We continue to believe this because we do not know better. Once we become a professional writer, many of us write articles that sell the same way we have done before and expect the same results. We may get published, we may not.This is not how to become a professional writer, nor is it how to start off by writing for a living. Many of us have the misfortune of turning down writing jobs because we have assumed that we have discovered writing for a living. We probably have not and will continue to do so until we realize what we have done.One of the reasons why this happens is because we do not stop to think that we are being given a commission when we sign a contract with someone. We are also being paid for reading the work of others. Why should we stop this habit, because we assume that we are being paid for doing something we love?The reason that many of us fail to learn this lesson is because we spend so much time trying to find out more about this subject called writing for a living and how to write for a living. This subject has become so popular that every person seems to have a secret or two about how to become a professional writer. Everyone seems to be able to offer advice on how to write a blog, or how to write a book, or how to sell a short story.Is there any way to become a profes sional writer if you are not happy with your writing career? It is not possible, yet it seems like everyone is talking about it. Even if someone is offering to teach you how to write a blog, can you imagine the lessons learned by the person who is teaching? No, because what one person learns from another is irrelevant.If you want to become a professional writer, you must learn to believe in yourself, your writing ability, and your abilities to be honest and to tell the truth. You must know that you are not doing anything wrong or too difficult for anyone to do. There is a difference between being a hobby and being a career. If you really want to write an article and become a professional writer, then you must believe this is possible.
